Spirit Feathers

Birds are seen as messengers of the spirits in many Native American cultures. The turkey feather fan with the beaded buckskin handle that my model is holding in this painting was used for smudging, as a prayer fan, or as a dance fan in ceremonies. The luminous light represents spiritual energy and guidance from the divine.
